What Clients Are Saying

Joe Van Thuyne...
“Joe is a true professional in every respect.  He is knowledgeable and takes joint responsibility for the success of his clients in achieving their goals through collaborative effort.  I was quite impressed by the degree of attention and the depth of research he conducted to design a training program that went beyond meeting my immediate need of recovering from a sports-related injury.  He cared to learn and appreciate my objectives of long-term physical strength, fitness and becoming a better golfer.  Joe took a holistic approach to my training including core strength, flexibility, balance and a healthier diet.  I am quite pleased with the results and look forward to our continued collaboration.”

"I have been a serious runner all of my life. In grade school I ran track and field and enjoyed it so much that I decided to run year round in high school (Cross County, Indoor and Outdoor Track). I did well in high school and received many honors including All American recognition. However, after high school I began to feel a little burnt out so I decided to run more for myself and on my own terms. In college, I cut back on running and began getting involved in triathlons. The new challenge helped me refresh and recharge and actually helped me get more serious about running again. I now compete in both triathlons and road races on a regular basis. To date, I have 7 marathons (PR 2:46:49) under my belt and roughly 10 triathlons, including a half ironman.

Throughout my running career I have been constantly plagued with injuries. I've had hip, knee, IT band, and shin issues that have sidelined me many times. Before my last two marathons I experienced injuries that resulted in less than ideal results and my most recent injury caused me to pool out of Broad Street.

After pooling out of Broad Street I reached out to my dad (Joe Van Thuyne) because I knew I needed to work on flexibility and strength to avoid these frustrating reoccurring injuries. My dad put together an extensive strength and stretching program and went through each exercise with me in detail to ensure I clearly understood everything. He even put me through some vigorous yoga sessions that helped me understand my body's limitations and pinpoint weaknesses to work on. I now do the exercises and stretches my dad gave me on a regular basis and (knock on wood) have not experienced any injuries (5 months of serious running).

My dad is passionate about what he does, but more importantly he knows his stuff. "

“Joe has been an excellent personal trainer. He spent a great deal of time with me discussing and assessing my fitness goals, and frequently seeks my input as to if I feel they're being achieved. He is extremely knowledgeable regarding exercise physiology and promoting whole- body health”

Dr. Mike N. (Head Physician – Emergency Care Unit, Major Phila Area Hospital)

“I have been working out on my own for a few years. I never thought I needed a personal trainer. I did my workouts without properly stretching. I made no real improvements. I signed up with Joe Van Thuyne at PSC in Radnor . He taught me many different workouts. Joe taught me proper form with free weights and how to properly use the machines. Joe is a trainer that works out with you and makes you feel very comfortable. Joe is also an excellent Yoga teacher. I would recommend Joe for anyone who wants to move to the next level or even a beginner.  He will get you on the right track !  I have made great progress in the last 12 weeks !      Thanks Joe !!!!”

I started with Joe in 2011 in an effort to address some flexibility issues that have led to a number of sports injuries, as well as to improve my running times. I was new to yoga training, and a little skeptical regarding its benefits and whether its philosophy would fit into my intensive running/lifting schedule. Since I have been training weekly with Joe, I have been able to significantly improve my balance and flexibility as well as lengthening my riding stride/improving my running workout times.  His instruction is knowledgeable   and well thought out, and he has been attentive to addressing areas where I am seeking improvement. The workouts have made my recovery from strenuous workout days quicker with less soreness.

I look forward to continuing with training journey with Joe, and anticipate that this training will produce a number of injury free personal best times in 2011 road races.

"Thank Joe - I am learning a lot from you and really appreciate it.  I am learning to get comfortable there !."

Dr. D'Arcy R. (Psychologist)

"I am sure Joe can adopt the intense, military style successfully if that is what his clients require.  However, if you are like me and find your workdays stressful enough and need someone who truly coaches for success -- gradually raising the bar with results that build up properly, substantially (and even surprisingly!); I highly recommend Joe as a trainer."

“Joe provides a unique perspective on training. He puts together a complete program including cardio, strength and stretching. I had never tried Yoga before – Joe is an expert at it. Most importantly he customizes his program to the needs of the client. I would recommend Joe to anyone serious about training.”

"I met Joe at PSC this past January.  I was looking for someone who understood how a 50 yr old body works (and doesn't work).  I am the typical weekend warrior who wants to do more.  Joe understood what I wanted and he designed a workout program to help me achieve my goals.   This past weekend after about 12 weeks with Joe I ran a small 5K race in Hershey PA.  I came in first overall!  Thanks Joe."

I began working with Joe a few months ago after years of relative inactivity.  Since I began, I have noticed real improvement in strength, flexibility, and endurance.  Joe is a true coach - he gets results through encouragement rather than intimidation.  He demonstrates and explains various exercises, how they are done, and why they are important. He is very knowledgeable, has a calm demeanor, is not judgmental and manages to coax improvement from week to week.  It's a style that works for me.  I recomend Joe very highly.
